5 Ways To Avoid The Flu

By | News | No Comments

It’s flu season, and most of us can’t afford to get sick. Whether you’re on the road or working in an office, you can be exposed to flu germs. how-to-avoid-the-flu

It’s not all bad news, though. These 5 tips can help you stay healthy this year.

1. Vaccinations

A flu vaccination is the first step in prevention, especially for high-risk populations. Those in high-risk groups are people with asthma, diabetes, heart or lung disease and people age 65 and older.

2. Eat Healthy, Sleep Well

Poor eating and sleeping habits can weaken your immune system. This acts as a big welcome sign to the flu virus. Try to maintain a healthy diet and shoot for 7-9 hours of sleep each night.

3. Don’t Touch Your Eyes, Nose and Mouth

Germs live on several surfaces, including door knobs, kitchen counters, the communal office coffee pot and many others. To prevent germs from spreading, wash your hands frequently with soap and water, and don’t touch your eyes, nose and mouth.

4. Take Your Medicine

If you start having flu symptoms, get to the doctor right away and take any prescribed medicine. Common symptoms include fever, sore throat, cough, chills, fatigue, body aches and headaches.

5. Avoid People With The Flu

The easiest and hardest piece of advice to follow. Be wary of anyone coughing or sneezing, and try to limit physical contact with them.

The flu can put you out of commission for a while. If you get sick, we’ll make sure your freight doesn’t miss a beat. Call or email us and find out how we can keep your freight moving.

How To Stay Healthy On The Road

Driving can be a pain in the neck…or back, or shoulders, or legs.

A recent survey found that 3 out of 5 Canadian truck drivers had suffered from musculoskeletal pain — which affects the muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones — due to driving.

Physical problems such as an awkward posture, prolonged sitting, repetitive movements, lifting and whole body vibration are often associated with musculoskeletal pain. Driving for a long period of time involves many of these risk factors, so it’s important to address these issues on and off the road.

With a few simple changes, you can alleviate or reduce these problems, whether you’re a truck driver or simply have back pain because of your daily commute.

1. Modify your workload or physical tasks to limit the stress put on your muscles. This could be as simple as asking for help when moving something large and heavy.

2. Focus on overall wellness by eating healthy and incorporating physical activity into your stops and when you aren’t driving. Pack healthy meals to eat during a long drive or trip, and go to the gym during your time off.

While you take care of yourself on the road, our team makes your freight shipments as easy and painless as possible. Call us today to learn about our solutions to your shipping needs.
